My New Bookcase

A couple of weeks ago when the small bookcase next to the piano in my studio starting leaning rather precariously, I knew it was time to find a new one!  Finding a bookcase that has shelves that are tall enough to hold music books is a challenge, however.  The other challenge is finding something sturdy enough to support the weight of all those music books!

But I think I found the perfect solution.  :)

My sister and brother-in-law along with my two nephews have been visiting for the last week (hence the lack of blog posts lately — sorry!).  We made a trip out to IKEA yesterday, and I bought this shelf unit for $130:

I did the math and found that I could make three of the shelves tall enough to hold music books.  The shelves can hold up to 66 pounds of weight.  The center board helps make the bookcase extra sturdy too.  I like that the bookcase has a medium height — not too tall, not too small.

I assembled the bookcase last night and reorganized my music library.  Here is how it looks in my studio:

I love my new bookcase!

Have you gotten anything new for your studio lately to prepare for the next school year?  :)

I just got a bulletin board/chalkboard that I’m pretty excited about! And some washi tape for decorating!

Hi, Joy ~ I purchased two tall, narrow bookshelves from IKEA and have one on either side of my piano. They work great for music and music-related knick-knacks that students have given to me over the years. Now to get it a little better organized by sections! I love your website ~ such great ideas!

I forgot to mention that I teach piano, violin and guitar, so keeping the music straight, with accompaniment, etc. is challenging. I’m thankful that I’ve had a couple donations of music given to me, so it’s fun to be able to pass it along to my students, as they advance to higher levels. :) We’re off to a good start this week, and I love to see all the enthusiasm in the students!
